How to Reset Your Nervous System in Under 90 Seconds

You’ve been lied to.

For years, the "self-help" gurus have told you that if you just change your thoughts, your life will follow. They told you to "think positive," "reframe the situation," or "journal your way out of anxiety."

But here’s the truth: Your mind is a passenger, not the driver.

When you’re triggered: when your heart is racing, your throat is tight, and you feel like you’re about to lose your mind: your prefrontal cortex (the "thinking" part of your brain) has already left the building. You can’t "think" your way out of a physiological state that is literally hard-wired into your survival circuitry.

If you want to know how to heal myself, you have to stop looking at your mindset and start looking at your biology. Real healing happens in the tissues, the nerves, and the electrical signals firing through your body.

At Satori Prime, our philosophy is simple: "Stop trying to make yourself feel better and simply get better at feeling."™

In this post, I’m going to show you how to hijack your biology and reset your nervous system in under 90 seconds. No journals required.

The Neural Trap: Why Your Brain is Stuck

Most high-performers are living in a state of "functional freeze." You’re getting things done, you’re hitting your KPIs, but underneath the surface, your nervous system is screaming.

Recent 2025 research in Frontiers in Immunology has revealed something wild: your peripheral sensory neurons aren't just "detectors" of pain or stress; they are active regulators of your immune system and metabolism. When you are chronically stressed, these neurons release neuropeptides that actually keep your body in a state of high alert, even when the threat is gone.

This is what we call the "Neural Trap." Your nervous system gets "stuck" on a high-frequency loop, making it impossible to access the states of flow, connection, and peace that you need to thrive.

This isn't a mindset issue. It's a nervous system regulation issue.

The 90-Second Biology of a Trigger

Here is a piece of neurobiology that will change how you view your emotions: A physiological stress response: the surge of adrenaline and catecholamines: only lasts about 90 seconds.

When you get triggered, a chemical flush happens in your body. It peaks and, if left alone, it naturally begins to decay.

So why do you feel stressed for hours? Or days?

Because you think about it. Your brain catches the sensation, creates a story ("I can't believe they said that," "I'm going to fail"), and that story re-triggers the 90-second loop. You are literally re-infecting yourself with stress chemicals over and over again.

To master nervous system health, you have to master the "90-Second Gap." You have to learn how to inhabit the sensation without the story.

The Science of the "Reset"

A 2025 study in PNAS found that specific potassium channels in our sensory neurons act as "brakes" for our nervous system. When we are over-stimulated, these channels fail to terminate the action potential, leading to sensory overload.

The Nervous System Reset Protocol we teach at Satori Prime is designed to manually engage these biological brakes, shifting you from a "threat" state to a "safety" state in real-time.

The 90-Second Reset: How to Do It

If you feel yourself spiraling, stop the "mindset" work. Do this instead:

  1. Exhale Longer Than You Inhale (30 Seconds): This isn't just "breathing." This is a direct hack of the Vagus nerve. When your exhale is longer than your inhale, you send a signal to your brainstem that the "predator" has left. Try a 4-count inhale and an 8-count exhale.
  2. The "Voo" Breath (30 Seconds): Borrowed from Polyvagal Theory, making a low-frequency "Voo" sound on your exhale creates a vibration in your chest and throat that stimulates the ventral vagal complex. It sounds weird. It works immediately.
  3. Orient to the Environment (30 Seconds): Look around the room and name three things you see that are blue. Then three things that are "heavy." This forces your brain to shift from internal "threat" scanning to external "safety" scanning.

By the time the 90 seconds are up, the initial chemical surge has passed. You are no longer a slave to the trigger. You are back in the driver's seat.

Co-Regulation: You Can’t Do This Alone

We like to think we are "self-made," but your biology says otherwise. Humans are social animals, and our nervous systems are designed to "sync" with others. This is called Interpersonal Neural Synchrony.

If you spend your time around people who are constantly dysregulated, your nervous system will follow suit. But if you put yourself in a "container" of regulated, high-performing individuals, your healing accelerates.

This is why we focus so heavily on community at Satori Prime. You can’t think your way to health, but you can co-regulate your way there.

If you feel like you’ve been fighting this battle solo for too long, maybe it’s time to stop. Check out our survival patterns guide to see how your history is showing up in your present.

Stop Trying to Feel Better

Most people spend their lives trying to "fix" their feelings. They want the anxiety to go away. They want the stress to vanish.

But nervous system regulation isn't about the absence of stress. It’s about the capacity to handle it.

When you get better at feeling: when you can sit with the discomfort of a 90-second surge without running away or making up a story: you become unfuckwithable. You become the leader who stays calm in the boardroom, the partner who stays present in the argument, and the person who finally feels at home in their own skin.
